The chop shop in Ramapo (video)

Carol Friedman clearly has some hostility towards the local yeshiva. I am pretty sure slaughtering a cow was not the way to try to improve relations with the neighbors...

I have slaughtered plenty of stuff in backyards, but never a cow. the largest animal I shechted in a backyard (really it was a porch) was a sheep. But I must say - the fact that it is in a backyard does not make it cruel...

Lohud reports....

Neighbor Carol Friedman saw adults and teens from the school lead the cow from a brown van into the backyard shortly after 5 p.m. She did not see what happened in the yard, but another neighbor told her that the animal was tied to a tree and slaughtered with knives

"It's the most horrendous, barbaric thing I have ever heard of," she said. "I can't believe they would slaughter a cow in a backyard in a residential neighborhood."

The best part of the video is when she says, "That's too big to be a dog"

  1. I wonder if the yeshiva offered the cops some steak?

  2. Reading press reports (Google for "Ramapo cow") it appears there is doubt whether the cow was actually slaughtered there. The health department guy who was on the scene says he can find no evidence of blood. The neigbors who seem to have it in for the yeshiva anyway, claim the cow was alive when it arrived.

That does make sense because why else would they have a dead cow in the yard of the yeshiva unless they teaching shehita, although it does seem kind of fishy. Not exactly the best way to get your zoning permit.

  3. if she's not a vegetarian , then why is it more cruel in a backyard than in a slaughterhouse?

  4. Mebbe the cow was brought in for a discussion of some finer points of... er... what?

  5. Where do hunters kill their prey? Where do people who raise chickens or other animals for food slaughter them? Does she have a problem when her neighbors unload the deer from their truck during deer season>

The story reeks of a woman afraid that the Chassidim will change her nice suburban white bread community. And they will change it if they can.

  6. I am somewhat certain that animal slaughtering is not allowed on school grounds in New York State. (Although the site is not acutally approved as a school, those in charge did not want to wait for that pesky paperwork to be filed and approved). Additionally, it is a violation of local statutes to slaughter animals. Also, the idea of leaving a dead cow head and entrails in cardboard boxes in a nursey school classroom is probably also a violation of health codes and school codes.
