The Trinity: Egged, the Pope, and the Holy Pashkevil

These are the latest pashkevils being tossed around Jerusalem. With the mayor cleaning the main streets of Jerusalem as if he was cleaning for Pesach, I sure hope they don't take the Pope through the haredi nieghborhoods when he gets here....

Every year right before Lag B'Omer, the fight heats up over who will control Meron and the grave site of Rashb"i, the mehadrin status of male-female access to the site, and the transportation up. The pashkevils exhort the public to not use Egged's services to go up to Meron, considering how Egged tramples the rights of the haredi consumer on a regular basis (the one on the bottom left describes, for example, how Egged treats the haredim with brutality and like a flock of sheep, but is going all out for the Pope).

  1. This year Egged is transporting people directly from Chareidi neighborhoods in J-m to Meron. They had a press conference with the Charedi media regarding this.
Since a resident of Har Nof or Bayit Vegan can walk out of his house and catch the bus to Meron in an organizaed fashion, while the competition requires one to get to Geula and then enter the ensuing balagan, it'l take alot of kanaus (or cheaper prices) to get people to forgo Egged.

  2. it is going to be such a madhouse, it is not going to matter. every available seat on every available bus will be snapped up. it does not matter who is operating the bus. People will get on whatever they can without caring.

  3. The irony is they just cancelled the Bayit Vegan-Meron run due to the Pope's visit.

  5. Rafi, I have been out of Israel for a couple years and my Ivrit is failing me, could you give a brief translation of the final poster regarding the pope? is he calling him "the head of the unclean people"?

    and "shratzav"?

  6. Rafi, probably because he'll be in Yad Vashem, so they'll close off Sderot Herzl

  7. shratzav" - his insects/bugs.

you got it. they treat the haredim with brutality but chase after to serve the head of tumah and his followers, because egegd fights against holiness and loves impurity.

  8. Thanks for the translation Rafi, turns out I dd understand the entire thing, i was just incredulous that it was actually saying that, like how sometimes the Charedim will use phrases that dont mean exactly as they say but are an allusion to something else.

    Sheesh, thats one crazy Pashkevil

  9. Why does Egged even bother trying to set up mehadrin lines, with treatment like this?

  10. big money involved. the haredi community is one of the highest percentage of public transport users. For lag b'omer it is definitely worthwhile. During the year the haredi askanim try to convince egged that that is really what haredim want. Thankfully, egged does not really buy into it.
