another level of detachment

If you thought the gedolim were too disconnected from the people already, and controlled [to a certain extent] by askanim you will love the latest idea.

Kupat Ha'Ir, the lovely tzedaka organization from Bnei Brak that frequently is pushing segulahs on potential donors, along with creating hopes of salvation for the mere act of giving with the inability to live a normal life unless one gives to them, along with having images of gedolim supermodels dropping their dimes in the pushke as fundraisers, has come up with a great new fundraising idea.

The new idea is that instead of waiting in line at the rav's house - everybody knows how long the line is to get into Rav Kanievsky's room to ask a question - you can now (if they implement the idea) make a donation of 350NIS (minimum) to Kupat Ha'Ir, and they will ask the question for you. An answer is gauranteed within 48 hours.

I don't know how they will be able to give over all the details and nuances necessary to ask the question properly so the rav understands the question and the petitioner, but I guess that is not important.

So now the average Joe and the little connection he already has to the gedolim is going to be encouraged to give that up and go through more middlemen and askanim... Kol Hakavod!

  1. No one is encouraging you NOT to go to the gedolim. But lets say you cant make it there in the next 2 days. Lets say you live in America - and this is cheaper, less time consuming and more practical than going yourself.

By all means, go to RCK and wait in line for your 2 minutes.

Regarding giving over the details, even if you go to RCK yourself, its hard enough to make sure he understands. Some people thnk its better to give the details to someone else who will have more time to a) understand you and b) give over the details to RCK

  3. al acharon, rishon...

    yoni - 350NIS.
    garfield - I agree
work - in teh Yated today (yesterday?) they had a big ad explaining why you should ignore the fact that you should not be looking for yeshuos, and that why giving to them causes yeshuos to happen is unexplainable and give anyway. Obviously they explain it with a story of a yeshua... I am getting sick of writing about them though, so i will probably let it pass.

anonymous - I did not get that from them. That is an option as well, but I understood they are encouraging all people to use the service. not just people int eh US. You want to go to Maran? Don't bother waiting in line for hours, just donate to us and we'll do it for you.

Hey...will our own local igud of Kupa Shel Tzedakos (Kuoa Shel Alef, Bet,Mishkanos Yaakov,Nachla Umenucha, etc) be involved with this as well?

Thye certainly take advantage of photo ops with the "super model" rabbonim for other things as well.

Or perhaps they will offer their own local version to be able to get hold of their hard to reach and out of touch rabbonim...Rabbis Kornfeld,Goldstein,Kopshitz,Rosenberger,et al)

    Refuah Shleima to you!

What does this have to do with Lema'an Achai?

I think that you may be the one with an issue here!

  10. Anon 8:43 - Most of the cheap shots directed at the kuppa on this blog are from people with some kind of relationship with LA. If you dont see it, I advise you to read this blog and the comments whenever there is a post about the kuppa or LA.

I dont have any issues with LA. In all honesty, where I live, you wouldnt know they exist. Not a sign. Not a pushka. Nothing. So I certainly dont feel threatened by them

But I'll bet there are plenty of families being helped by them.

The reason that there are no signs and pushkos is that they are not allowed!

Their help is kosher to take but not to give.

What a twisted world we live in!

Yes there may be comments here about Kupa from time to time..but in many of the streets and in many of the shuls Lema'an Achai is not allowed to collect.

Who really feels so threatened that they won't even allow another tzedaka organziation into the shul to collect? Not the commenters here but rather the cowards who boycott Lema'an Achai.
