Interesting Posts #58

1. Hirshel Tzig takes on a difficult topic of the cost of living of a frum family. I don't even know what the yiddish title of the post means, but the post and ensuing discussion are worthwhile... And once on the topic, Freakonomics has a post about how the declining price of pork chops has benefited those of us who keep kosher. Who woulda thunk it...

2. DafNotes talks about the mitzva of settling in Eretz Yisrael.

3. With vacation season upon us, this post is useful. Johnny Degani posts about how to save 1000NIS easily on your next vacation.

4. Double Tapper has a photo collection of Saddam's "pimped out" gun collection. Pretty cool.

5. Bob Martin from Sderot sums up the current situation in American and Israel with a metaphor of a balloonist.

6. 70Faces has a cool video from the recent solar eclipse in Asia. At minute marker 2:18 or so, you can see the moon start to move away from the sun and the glare of the sun peeking out forms a clear symbol dear to us. I have no idea what, if any, significance there is to it. Regardless, it is cool.

7. LOZ asks if Israel has failed in its charge of being a light to the nations...

    Halbe arbet = "half job"
Basically means "A job half done"

Good to see someone from that velt saying something publicly about the situation.

  2. The eclipse thing looks like an artifact from the lens, rather than something you'd have seen had you been there in person. It's cool looking, but I don't think it's in any way significant.
