  2. I'm sure throwing off your talit and dancing around like a lunatic is an appropriate way to act when wearing tfilin.

  3. It seems like the practice to wear tefilin beyond prayers has encouraged some to take it rather lightly. Can you play Monopoly in tefilin, or only Jewish games? Mitzvah Millionaire or only games with a mesorah? Oh, oops this version of dreidel doesn't have a mesorah....

  4. I dont know. it used to be tefillin were worn all day, during a persons davening, learning, work, hobby and all. tefillin were not meant just for prayer, but for all activities.

We stopped because we could not keep our bodies clean enough, and our thoughts pure enough. Also, there is an issue of hesech hadaas.

Nowadays that we generally only wear tefillin for davening, it seems like this is a lack of respect, even though back in the day they might have danced in their tefillin as well.

  5. The Mishna Brurah (44:3) specifically says that "s'chok v'kalut rosh" are considered hesech hadaas.

  7. They also used to wear mechubad garments while wearing tefillin. I don't think an undershirt counts.

It's wonderful to try and find a limud zechus, but sorry, there's none here.

    Feh.

  9. If you take it seriously, you don't videotape it, and you don't do it because you spun a "nachman" on your dreidle.
