no rain means less food and more prayer

The winter season in Israel started out looking like it would be very promising as far as being considered a "wet winter". We had a couple early season rains, and everybody got excited we might be headed out of the drought with what looked like the expectancy of a lot of rain.

While we have had some rain, it has been pretty disappointing. We have only had a few days here and there, though the rain we did have was heavy. It has been an unusually warm winter overall. Some expected storms blew right by us, dropping their rains in the Mediterranean or other countries around us.

In light of what has turned out to be only minimal rain levels and the continued drought, the Chief Rabbinate has now issued a call for everyone to daven and fast for rain this coming Thursday.
