Haredim and the environment

The Haredi community is becoming more and more sensitive to the environment. Besides for their activity in leading groups and organizations and being involved in "green" legislation in the Knesset and various municipalities, there was a nice story in Beitar recently.

An avreich from Beitar found a deer that had been injured by a fence. he contacted the nature authorities who came and took the deer to the zoo in Jerusalem for care and treatment of his wounds. After 2 weeks, the zoo was brought back to its area near Beitar to be let loose, tagged so it could be tracked.

The avreich, his family, and teachers from his school were invited to participate in the releasing of the deer. The nature authority representatives expressed their pleasure at the sensitivity and love of nature displayed by the haredi community and hopes to work together in the future.

  1. Isn't it sad that this has to be a story?
