Chosson steps on glass, sues wedding hall

We've all heard the stories of the chosson who smashed his foot down on the glass under the chuppa, and smashed it with such vigor that shards of glass went through the shoe and into his foot, requiring attention of a medic or being taken to a hospital.

Urban legend? true story? I could not find anything about this story on Snopes... so who knows?

The story has been around so long that it actually happened. Last year it happened to a groom from Tel Aviv in a wedding hall near Ashdod. And he is suing the wedding hall because of it.

The groom broke the glass, injured his foot with a shard that went through his shoe, and had to leave the hall for some time for medical treatment before returning to the hall. After that he says he was unable to celebrate as he would have liked to, but had to stop and rest every few minutes, thus ruining his wedding day. He also says he had to miss work because of the injury, and he is left with a large and ugly scar on his foot.

He is suing the wedding hall for using a glass that is inappropriate for the chuppa ceremony, and it was wrapped in aluminum foil - an inappropriate wrapping. The suit is for 6000 NIS.

The management of the wedding hall has responded saying they are sorry for the incident and have done everything possible to help him out - from providing medical attention and assistance in helping him celebrate as well as helping with the insurance claim.

I wonder why he is not also suing the manufacturer of the shoes he was wearing at the time.

With that big ugly scar on his foot, he will no longer be able to wear his bikini at the beach... He clearly does not know the expression of the scar making a man look more masculine (whether it is actually true or not is a different story)...

  1. Catering dishes are very thick, in order to prevent them from breaking from getting clanked around... But why didn't they use a cloth napkin??
