Book Review: Let My RV Go, by Nicole Nathan

Let My RV Go! by Nicole Nathan (published by Mosaica Press) is a novel that I happened to read with perfect timing now right before Pesach.

The story is set with a family from Canada that decides to get away for Pesach, but not by going to a hotel or resort, but by hopping into a couple of rented RVs (with another family) and driving down south to a randomly selected trailer park for Pesach. The story takes us through the foibles and drama of a family trip, along with some mystery and intrigue when some unknown person hands them a box of matza to be delivered to an unknown address "down south", with only a last name. As part of their family adventure, they must also look for the guy they are meant to deliver the matza to.

The story is light and entertaining. I like Nicole Nathan's style, as her wit shows in her writing style. "Let My RV Go!" is a good read, a pretty quick read, and will provide you with a fun experience.

Besides for the light and entertaining style, the book does delve into deeper issues, but not too deeply, by exploring the backgrounds of the characters in the story, with debating about how much baalei teshuva should be open about their colorful pasts, issues of teenagers and their relationships with their parents, tzniyus, observance and more.

My one criticism of the book is that some of the ritual observance things mentioned seemed inconsistent - such as memories of traditional Jewish Pesach and Shabbos, when she is newly religious, some of the ideas of keeping shabbos discussed in great detail, yet, again, she is only newly religious... Despite those minor inconsistencies, they did nothing to make the book any less enjoyable and they did not harm the story in any way - just more of a curiosity added to the story.

I definitely enjoyed reading Let My People Go! by Nicole Nathan, and would recommend you read this, if you enjoy some entertaining reading material..

You can buy Let My RV, Go! on Amazon.com for $15.73 (Kindle Edition for $2.99)

  1. My husband, at the same time as preparing adults' classes, and being the Jewish head of a community school, and a general community outreach figure, is frantically doing up the (8 berth) fixer-upper RV he bought so we can go away for chol hamoed! I may have to buy it as a present....
