I gave blood yesterday as well, but I went early and it was mostly empty... but other times they had the blood drive (every three months) I have had the same experience...

Surprisingly, few people understand how the blood donations work. if no one in your immediate family donates at least once a year, then you do not have blood insurance and chas vshalom a surgery is required, one will have to search for people to donate X number of units - hence the reason to donate specifically in a person's name.
