buying someone else's Olam Ha'Ba

I don't know if this was an April Fool's joke or a serious business proposal... either way it is an interesting idea..

hattip: Rabbi Eliyahu Fink

if you could not follow the Hebrew, it is an offer for people who are in the process of leaving Orthodox Judaism... the offer he makes is a religious Jew offering to buy for a fair price, though I don't know how a fair price is calculated for this, for the torah learned, the mitzvos performed, and the chessed acts performed.. the purchase will be done via a contract with witnesses, and there will be no possibility of retracting the deal once performed... only serious inquiries should call!

  1. Not much point in purchasing the Torah and mitzvos of someone leaving Judaism, since the Gemara says that they lose all the merits they had acquired until that point. A fair price would be 0.
A Jewish person, on the other hand, who was never religious, is filled with mitzvot like a pomegranate. However, if they don't believe in Olam HaBa, and are prepared to sell their share, they probably don't get any credit either.
In other words, this guy is wasting his money. Good on him!

    1. maybe its being done before he goes off, while he is still just considering or planning it.. unless the moment of the sale itself wipes it all out the moment before he sells it..

  2. Wasn't there some story of a man who supported a kollel and Rav Shteinman signed over some sachar for that - and shortly thereafter the man died but appeared to Rav Shteinman in a dream saying that sachar that he bought was all that saved him...?
