Women - know your place

This is a notice inviting the residents of the specific building to a general meeting of the residents to discuss issues and transfer responsibility of collecting dues to someone else.

this made me laugh, and cringe.. for those of you that need a translation, it informs of the meeting details and then says the meeting is also open to women. The men will sit in the living room and the women will sit in the kitchen. Women can send their comments/suggestions/proposals either via a note or via their husbands.

Women are invited, but they must know their place. Sit in the kitchen and don't talk.

  3. This is being a jerk for the sake of being a jerk. Can you not even handle the idea of separate seating. Is such a concept so foreign to you that you must mock it ?

    1. separate seating, which is only really necessary at davening in shul, would be men sit on this sid eof the table and women on the other end of the table, or men on this couch and women on the other. Here women are in another room, and they arent allowed to talk

  4. oy, the cultural blindness!
in many social sub groupings, women would not come unless they could be assured of sitting in a separate room. since in any case fewer woman are going to show up than men, it makes sense to seat the men in the larger room and the women in the smaller room. since in those type of cultural settings, women would not be willing to speak publicly in front of men, the author of the note makes some helpful suggestions as to how the women can still participate should they so desire.
all of this is self evident to anyone who gets out of their own cultural bubble once in a while, and interacts with, or at least observes, other peoples culture.

  6. The reason why women are in the kitchen is cause the food (cakes) is better there. And the women don't want to be bothered while discussing recipes.
You don't say what town this took place on.
