you hurry up while we dont

The news is reporting that Defense Minister Yisrael Katz has instructed the IDF Chief of Staff Hertzi Halevi that the IDF investigation into the events of October 7 are expected t be completed by the end of January 2025 (ie, I expect you to have concluded the investigation by then). And, Katz let Halevi know that he will not approve any further new general appointments in the IDF until he gets the investigation materials to review and learn who was involved in what way, which will affect who gets promoted and advanced and who does not.

That is a good thing.

I do find it humorous though that the government is demanding the IDF hurry up and finish its own investigation into the events of October 7 while the government itself has done nothing but delay even starting an investigation because it does not want to either learn the lessons of what happened or bear the responsibility for what happened.

  1. Even more cunical - it's not that they don't want to learn the lessons. They want to hold up the report and say "You see! It was all the army's fault!"
And they would have a point.
Yes, Bibi's "mow the lawn" and "bribe Hamas to be good" strategies were flawed but until October 7, they were working. It wasn't ideal. It wasn't permanent, as October 7 obviously proved but, like Chamberlain on August 31, 1939, the strategy was working.
On the other hand, the more time goes on, the more information comes out about how much the army knew and, more concerning, how much they hid from the government.
If one were paranoid, one could suggest that the Labour'niks in the army thought that October 7 would be a 1-2 day event, that there would be losses but in the end Hamas would be quickly contained and the fallout could be used to depose Bibi. Just like Stalin figured that the Germans would be happy with half of Poland.

    1. if you are correct, and I have no idea if you are and nobody can until an investigation is done, why is the coalition so afraid of an investigation? I know the answer is because they think everyone is out to get them and the investigation wont be fair.. nu nu. they could have found a way to do it. if the army can do an investigation and the government has no problem with that, the government could as well
