In less religious neighborhoods people like to complain about the Shabbos sirens that some people operate on Friday as Shabbos begins. In fully Haredi neighborhoods, and I think in most or all Dati neighborhoods, the Shabbos siren has become a fixture. it just exists. The problem, the conflict or friction, happens when religious people move into a not-religious area and introduce the siren to people who never had it and do not particularly want it. By the way, in different areas the siren might be different types of music or an actual siren...

Personally, I am fine with the siren. The one thing that I dont like about it is that in a big religious area like where I live there is not just one siren, but 3 or 4, and of course the people operating them can't be bothered to coordinate among each other. So Friday afternoon as Shabbos approaches, we get to hear 3 or 4 sirens, not knowing what each one is alerting us to (40 minutes? 20 minutes? a bit before 40 minutes so we know it is coming? etc).

And in some places they have the opposite problem. 

According to Kipa, many religious French people have been making aliya and moving to cities like Netanya, Tel Aviv, Ashdod, and other cities and neighborhoods that do not necessarily have a religious flavor to them, along with many others who go to these areas for short term stays and visits. Because these are not natively religious areas they generally do not have these sirens in place, and the community representatives say the residents often do not know enough Hebrew or where to look for the information, and having a siren announce the upcoming arrival of Shabbos would be very helpful.

These people have put out a call to Ron Huldai to allow a siren in Tel Aviv to announce the approaching Shabbos. They specifically requested a siren be sounded ithe areas of the midrachov, a popular pedestrian walkway, and the boardwalk (I think this is the boardwalk along the beach)...

I havent seen any word yet from Huldai if he plans to approve this or reject the request. It seems to me that it would be more likely to be approved if it was being requested for a religious area where a significant portion of the residents wanted it and benefited from it. It seems less likely to me that in places like these, the boardwalk and midrachov, such a request will be approved. but we wait and see.

This is specific to the online marriages recognized by the State of Utah in the USA.  With no civil marriage in Israel, couple wanting to marry civilly and not religiously had to travel abroad to wed, and then would register their marriage upon return. Cyprus was a common destination for these civil unions, due to its proximity to Israel and generally cheap or reasonable prices, so it did not become an expensive event to get married. During Covid it became a problem as for long periods of time people could not travel abroad, and in Israel they could not marry civilly. At some point the State of Utah started doing online marriages, and Israelis looking for civil marriages flocked to Utah, digitally at least.

Initially these weddings were approved upon registration in Israel but at some point Aryeh Deri, Minister of Interior at the time, decided to put a stop to this process and ordered a legal review. While the Ministry under Deri published a legal opinion that because these couple were present in Israel at the time of the wedding, the State of Utah had no authority as the laws of Israel applied to them in the borders of Israel, and the marriages were invalid. Eventually Deri was ousted from the Ministry, and while nothing really changed, an eventual appeal to the courts brought about this new decision that a decision in the debate over legality of location is beyond the authority of a clerk in the Ministry of Interior - their authority is simply to determine the validity of the documents presented to them. If the marriage certificate from abroad is determined to be valid, the clerk must register them as married.

The decision has upset religious parties, bringing civil marriage to Israel. Personally I think there should be some form of civil marriage in Israel. Too many people struggle with no solution as they are not officially Jewish but also not Christian or Muslim, and have no method for getting married (among other things). When nobody is willing to present a solution to a problem, the vacuum will be filled by other people, in this case by the State of Utah and creative Israelis who came up with the idea.

.In the meantime, Aryeh Deri has petitioned the Attorney General to put an end to this saying the judge doesnt have the authority to change the Jewish character of the State and it gives every person the ability to circumvent the law in Israel.

This brings new meaning to MBD's song Yerushalayim is not for Sale, when he says "you better run for your life, back to Utah overnight..."

Yet no matter how many times Netanyahu talks about forming a full right wing government, ממשלת ימין על מלא, he keeps coming back and offering Gantz to join his government (and even to participate in a rotation of the Prim Minister position). And he formed a government with Gantz in the past. So is Gantz Left or Right? When Netanyahu needs him for a government, Gantz is not so left. When he doesnt, Gantz is Left. And the same with Saar. He can beg and plead with Saar to form a government together, but when Saar doesnt join Netanyahu he is Left. 

I hope fewer and fewer people are buying Netanyahu's narishkeit nowadays.

This is great. It is about time. This has been nothing but a failure over the past couple of decades. And it might not even be entirely their own fault - hardly anyone sends real mail any longer. It is mostly bills and junk mail. Most of their business seems to be packages, on which they make hardly any money.

The real question is who might turn around and buy this thing? who thinks they can turn this into a profitable enterprise? And what is this person smoking? just joking. Best of luck to him or her. My guess is that it will probably be China. They seem to be buying up the world.
