RBS Pashkevil Against TOV
The latest pashkevil around RBS, and it has been a while since they put up a local issue pashkevil (national issue ones go up regularly) is against TOV.
TOV, led by Eli Friedman, runs the Iryah's department for strengthening youth. Hamachlaka L'ha'atzamat Ha'Noar. As part of their work, they published a chidon, a quiz of sorts, called "Chidon HaShabbos", on the halachos of Shabbos, for the local schools.
In response, his opponents plastered the neighborhood with pashkevils:
The pashkevil talks about the purity of the schools and comes along a party that is founded on rebellion against the gedolim, and therefore the schools, educators and parents should not participate in this chidon, and advertising publications should not publicize it either.
I note that they did not write that they found controversial content in the chidon making it inappropriate, just that the people who published it are rebels.

ReplyDeleteNo literal implications here. Any inferences belong exclusively to the reader.
Why is there so much dissention and hatred on top of the hill called "... Shemesh"?
ReplyDeletewell one explanation for bet shemesh is it was a center for avoda zara to the sun. (it isn't the one I accept, but maybe they do....)
ReplyDeleteAlthough his name isn't explicit I believe that the acrostic in the paragraph spells Elimelech Kornfeld especially since he was one of the most vocal against TOV.
ReplyDeleteWhat are these "rabbonim" afraid of? That perhaps people will think for themselves with a Torah influence?
acrostic? where is there an acrostic?
ReplyDeleteFor those who live outside of Israel, who is Elimelech Kornfeld? What is his role in the neighborhood?
ReplyDeleteRafi,
ReplyDeleteWhat I think RBS means is that Rabbi Kornfeld is behind much of this intolerance in our community, particularly regarding TOV.
He may be anglo but he is quite "kitzoni"in his outlook and would like to see RBS become another Bnei Brak, Beitar, Kiryat Sefer, etc.
It is he who brought Rav Shteinman here before the last election to lambast anyone who didn't vote Gimmale and Abutbol.
It is he who told TOV supporters that they wouldn't have a chalek in olam haba.
So while his name isn't on the pahkevil I'm certain he stands firmly behind it.
and he didn't sign himself because...?
ReplyDeleteit is only signed by the "morei d'asra" and no other rabbis, so maybe they were trying to keep it at the top level...
ReplyDeleteHamasig,
ReplyDeleteHe didn't sign it himself because he knows that it would further confuse his flock of bewildered and perplexed followers.
He still tries to maintain a facade of being normal so that he can attract more people and then force his version of Judaism and Torah on them.
Is he a rosh yeshiva, shul rabbi, and where is from originally?
