Police to Women of the Wall: We will enforce the prohibition against saying Kaddish
-- Kikar
Wow. I had no idea it is also illegal to say kaddish and kedusha.
The chief of the regional police wrote to the Women of the Wall saying that they have decided to fully enforce the law and they will not just be tracking tallit-wearers, but will also be arresting, this coming Rosh Chodesh, any women who say kadish or kedusha.
Oy. Rachmuna l'tzlan. This is what it has come to. This has become way too similar to places like the Soviet Union, mandating what prayers can and cannot be said. Like Women of the Wall or hate them, the police should not be picking on them for prayers said, and the Israeli legal system should not be dealing in laws regarding who can say what type of prayer.

Very well said. Thank you!
ReplyDeletethis is not the police deciding this - this is the chareidi groups putting enough pressure on the police to get this done. Are they going to go into shules now too and arrest women who say kaddish? This is worse than the soviet union - our own "frum" people are creating this racist, sexist, and kneged halacha religion as opposed to what judaism should be.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine was talking to a local rabbi here and told the rabbi: " Rabbi, I have to compliment you. You are steeped in Frumkeit, it's very impressive. he them paused while the Rabbi smiled and said thanks, He continued - But Yiddishkeit and Judaism, not so much".....
It's kind of funny. WoW have been around for quite a while, but the publicity they've received has been multiplied by 10 or 100 since the Charedim launched their offensive against them (via the police for tallit wearing and now kaddish saying).
ReplyDeleteBut the Kitsur Shulchan Aruch says women can say Kaddish. I guess he was reform.
ReplyDeleteor worse - maybe he was a supporter of WoW!
