Wow, color really makes a difference - between feeling distant and "other" in relation to the people of that era, and feeling like these are people I might pass in the street today, kids who (except for the clothes) look like they could be in my kids' classes, etc... Which makes it all the more eerie to think about the terrible, gruesome fate which was about to overtake just about every single person you saw in the film.
