What Gafni should be saying is that the men in general should be going to the army and
also learning Torah. The soldiers when battling the enemy is the physical defense and
the Torah is the spiritual and true protection. This is something that Torah true Jews should know. This would be a Jewish army.
No women at all should be in the army. These are the Jewish ways of life according to
the Torah!
