better we show our humanity
I am a little bit torn over what happened at the horror show screening in the Knesset today.
If you aren't aware, they decided today to show the Members of Knesset the video that had been prepared for foreign journalists detailing many of the horrific atrocities perpetrated by Hamas on our people on October 7. This is footage that was so gruesome it had not released to the public, but after showing it to foreign journalists they decided to show it to the MKs as well.
Some of the MKs broke down crying, some left in the middle it was so horrific they couldn't continue, some refused to attend the viewing at all.
First, at the end of the day we are all human beings (not including the Hamas terrorists). Such images are just too much for a human being to bear. Personally I dont watch any of the videos or pictures of killings, ever. Not of stabbing attacks, not of people shooting terrorists, not any of what was in the news of what happened on October 7, etc. I get that some people in Knesset also just dont want to traumatize themselves with such images being burned into their souls. And then there are some who thought it important to see but couldnt handle the trauma once it began.
On the other hand, this is our government and not just private citizens. they need to know what they are dealing with, what they are making decisions about, what happened to their people.
Why has it even taken them so long? They should have been made aware of this a long time ago. I find it difficult to blame people for not being able to handle such images, but at least for those that could, why did it take so long?
And I have heard some complaints that videos going around of MKs leaving the Knesset screening in tears is a sign of weakness that will strengthen Hamas, weaken the Israeli people. I am not sure that is correct. I would be shocked if every single MK had the ability to keep a steely composure in the face of all that brutality. I dont mind my MKs being human with emotions. I get that maybe it can be seen as weak, but I see it as now they have seen how bad it really was it can strengthen their resolve and move them to more strength and determination to fight Hamas.
And as I have said before, the volunteer organizations that have been on the ground doing the work, the work the government should have been doing but didn't, with their volunteers seeing those sites live and in the flesh and in real time, while the MKs got to wait it out in their offices for a video that they could step away from if it would get too uncomfortable... those organizations should be supported by the government..

Showing the videos is not the Jewish way; the Jewish way according to Torah is 'l'hashmid otam l'gamri'! They are the gilgulim of the ancient cnaanim. To have rachamim on reshaim, especially of that caliber is such a sin because we are taught by Chazal that when you are kind to the wicked you will be cruel to the kind. We've seen too much of that.
ReplyDeleteEvery Jewish soldier is worth more than millions of such beasts. H' watch over and protect our chayalim!
