Interesting Psak: no tachanun
Rav Shmuel Eliyahu, Chief Rabbi of Tzfat, issued a psak this morning decreeing that tachanun should not be said during the services today. Additionally we should all make the bracha of Hatov V'Hameitiv, and say Mizmor L'Toda.
Rav Eliyahu explained that having received the good news we have waited for so long, to remove the horrible Iranian threat, requires us to say a full throated thank you. When we thank God, the bounty flows even more. God gives the counsel and the strength to the leaders of Israel to succeed, to the government and the army and to the President of the USA.

I havent yet seen anyone say anything about Hallel, with or without a bracha

This is premature. No one knows the extent of the damage there yet.
ReplyDeleteOver Shabbos I read an interesting article about the possible unintended consequences of this.
ReplyDelete1) Israel shouldn't think that the Arabs will now suddenly publicly love them because they took care of Iran. The main reason the Arabs have drawn closer to Israel is because of the fear of Iran. Now that fear is gone so perhaps they will see themselves as the new hegemon in the region to challenge Israel.
2) Bush II took out Iraq which was the counterweight to Iran's ambitions. Now Israel has taken out Iran which is the counterweight to Turkey's ambitions. So things might worsen as Erdogan decides to become the new Israeli no.1 enemy.
good point about Turkey. not sure I agree with #1 but it is a possible outcome..
DeleteI saw videos of some shuls saying hallel yesterday morning, including the Churva and RamBaN in the old city.
ReplyDeleteHowever I agree with Yehoshua that it may be too early to start celebrating just yet. A year from now when we know the extent of the damage and the outcome, it may be worth celebrating, but there are still too many unknowns
