My translation:
I just heard about the new shameful incident of a rav that say "yimach shemo" - his name should be blotted out - about the IDF Chief of Staff.
I heard from my father many times about a gathering of rabbomnnim in the home of the Chazon Ish in which the name of a government Minister was mentioned and one of the rabbis muttered from under his moustache "yemach shemo"...
The Chazon Ish asked: if that minister would die without having had any children, would his wife be obligated in yibum, marrying the brother of the deceased?
The rabbi responded, definitely, as even a mumar (an apostate) is obligated in yibum!
So why is his wife obligated in yibum? Because the Torah says "so that his name should not be wiped out from Israel".. the Torah is concerned that the name of each Jew should not be blotted out, even an apostate, so how can you say "yemach shemo" about any Jew?!

Wow, what a story!

  1. I actually think it is a terrible story as:
1- The Rabbi who muttered "yemach shmo" shouldn't need a Vort from the Hazon Ish to know that it is wrong to talk that was about a fellow Jew, and is further proof that years in Kollel don't necessarily result in wisdom.
2- Is there so little gratitude for the Ramatka"l and Israeli soldiers in general (one of my sons starts 101 days Miluim yet again tomorrow) that anyone could think that such an anecdote mitigates anything?
