The courts in Jerusalem yesterday responded to a petition regarding the defacing of images of women on signs in the public sphere. The courts said that the City of Jerusalem must coordinate and meeting with representatives of the police and come up with an organized plan to fight this phenomenon, and hire new workers within 3 months to be ready to respond to such calls in real time.
Interestingly, the judge, Shirley Renner, said that it is inconceivable that people who break the law will be the ones left to administer the public sphere.
The City of Jerusalem responded that they have plans for 2022 to expand the network of security cameras across the entire city. These cameras will help them with enforcement of various crimes, along with increasing the sense of security and safety. They will also set budgets and resources for establishing a unit responsible for these cameras and enforcement, in coordination with the relevant security forces.

Will it help? Who knows? First they have to even try. This is a crime that is very difficult to enforce and to catch the perpetrators. So first they have to try. And if the cameras help them see who is doing it, at least in most cases, they still have to identify the people involved and then fine them and use even harsher punishments for deterrence if the fines dont help. But first they have to try. So far authorities have not really even tried to solve this.

Proposed Law: Police Chief and PM salary levels
MK David Amsalem (Likud) is proposing a law that would decrease the salary of the Police Chief and increase the salary of the Prime Minister.
Amsalem's idea, besides for being Netanyahu's bulldog, is that the Police Chief earns 97,000nis per month while a regular new policeman starts with a salary of 6000nis per month Amsalem says they will all be fine if the chief only earns 40,000nis per monthy and rookie police officers earn 10,000nis per month. The Chief of Police, according to Amsalem, should be equal to that of a Member of Knesset, while the highest salary in the Knesset should be that of the Prime Minister, as he manages everything..
As of now the PM earns 48,815nis per month. The Police Chief earns 97k, the IDF Chief of Staff earns 84,400, The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court earns 92,973, among others.

Initially many are opposed to this, even from within the coalition. MK Uri Maklev (UTJ) opposes it saying that the PM gets many other benefits that the Police Chief does not receive. The PM himself, at least publicly, opposes it.

I don't have an opinion as to how much each public official should be earning. I do not understand what comparing the PM's salary to the Police Chief's salary has to do with the comparison between the Police Chief's salary and a police rookie's salary. They are two different issues. The Police Chief's salary could be decreased and rookies' salaries increased without having anything to do with equating one to the PM's salary. Or, the rookies' salaries could be increased without decreasing the Chief's. Decreasing the Chief's salary won't give you the necessary monies to fund the increase in rookies' salaries - at least not for more than a handful of rookies - so if you think the police need a higher salary scale, work on that as an independent issue..

public service must be great!
Working in the public sector must be great! In general, the public sector has a reputation of the salaries being on the low end of average, but the benefits are supposed to be amazing. By "benefits", I refer to sick days, vacation days, bonuses, transportation expenses, maternity leave, etc.
Abraham Hisrchson, the Finance Minister, is under investigation for fraud, embezzlement of public funds, and other nefarious activities. The police have not been able to locate a goog explanation for the source of his money and he has, supposedly, not provided them with any good answers.
The police announced, it was reported in the newspapers, that they will be looking for the source of tremendous amounts of assets in Hirschson's name.
These assets include (but are not limited to):

- gas stations
- Swiss bank account
- plots of land allocated for building, in the Golan Heights and Zichron Yaakov

Hirschson has been a worker in the public sector for the past 40 years. The fact that he was able to accumulate such amazing wealth so as to be able to afford all that (and more), either says a lot for his actions, or a lot for salaries in the public sector.
Olmert has been under investigation for the selling of a number of houses at questionable prices that indicated possible fraud and breach of trust, with the possibility of bribery. Olmert, too, has been a public servant his entire career, and even more so, he is the son of a public servant as well. Where he got the money to purchase million dollar homes, and half million dollar homes, also raises questions.
A while back when Olmert was asked about all the great real-estate deals he has been a part of, his response was, "I have houses just like the average person. Doesn't everybody have property to sell?". I guess the salaries must be really high. He thinks the average Israeli owns similar properties.
Maybe I should move over to work in the public sector!
