It Seems Some Are Above The Law
When is it ok to flaunt the "rule of law" and when is it a "yeharag v'al yaavor"?
When a rabbi or right-wing person or group flaunts the law due to ideals, belief in a greater moral authority, etc. the criticism is fast in coming, mostly from the Left, about how the rule of law is all-important, nobody is above the law, and the like.
When the Left feels like flaunting the law it seems to be ok and nobody cares. They even get commended for it, as if they are doing a greater good.
The Boycott Law passed, like it or not, and Peace Now has immediately called for boycotts against goods manufactured in the settlement areas.
Is that not flaunting the law? Are they above the law? Why is it suddenly ok, just because they don't like the law?

This is nothing new. After the Rabin assassination we were told that saying anything against the government or the Oslo Discords was incitement to murder and against the law. Calling right wingers murderers and terrorists, on the other hand, was perfectly fine.

ReplyDeleteThere's no law against boycott. The law gives the target(s) of the boycott a right to sue the boycotter.
ReplyDeleteit is now illegal to call for a boycott, and is now a civil offense. and any public organization making such a call loses legal status and loses ability to offer tax deductions for donations.
