Matisyahu in a musical on Broadway?

Rumor has it that you read the title of the post correctly. Rumor has it that discussions are underway to turn the highly successful Israeli film "Ushpizin" into a musical Broadway show. The same rumors are reporting that Matisyahu might be the star of the show.

While Matisyahu denies any knowledge of it, he does admit to having watched the film and crying after beign touched by it.

  5. Rafi, oh yeah. I spoke with a lot of my friends in the States, and they said that when they went to the movie, it was always packed. It surprised me also, but it got great reviews and very good sales numbers for a foreign movie.

  6. It was big in the US. The couple who starred in the role made a guest appearance at our establishment. They were cute together. However, I think the number of acting roles available to them will be quite limited outside of Ushpizin. Can you imagine them in a charedi version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith?

  7. Mr. and Mrs. Smith - that is a great idea!!
They did not just star in the movie, if I understood correctly, they were the creators of the movie as well. The concept was theirs. Also, I think I heard they were already move stars (if such a thing exists in Israel) already..

  8. ok, ushpizin was a it among JEWS in the U.S. i tried watching it with my freinds and they thought it was crap.
don't get me wrong, it won some fancy israeli movie award, but there was no large scale public interest.

  9. I can accept that. I would not think Americans would understand the culture portrayed in the movie..
