I just don't get it

What I don't get:

  1. These politicians want to be Prime Minister but they are afraid to speak out against Olmert. Olmert has recently held a 3% popularity rating, but Tzippi Livni, Ehud Barak and other politicians are afraid to cross him. What's the big deal? How much revenge can he take? The guy's career is practically over, what's he gonna do? And if they are quiet because they are covering themselves and hiding something, why do they want to be PM? We are not living in the 1980's anymore? In today's political climate everything gets revealed and very little stays under the covers. So if they have something to hide, they should not bother with the race at all. So what is keeping them from talking out against Olmert?
  2. Why does Olmert want to remain PM so badly? Since he became PM he has lost popularity in a big way, multiple investigations have been opened against him, he is now being blamed for the failures of the last war, he has publicly been declared unfit for the position. Why does he refuse to resign? What about the job can still be so appealing to him? The power? Nobody will take him seriously anymore? The respect of other world leaders? He must know they probably realize he is on the way out and are already planning for post-Olmert. The challenge of fighting back?

I just don't get it.

  3. that could be it, but the truth is that he does not really need a job. He is such an astute businessman as can be seen by his amazing real estate deals in which he overcharged for properties and underpaid for properties by the hundreds of thousands of dollars, he should be fine....

  4. One word: ego. It's the same reason Shimon Heres won't disappear after all he's wrought.
