Have The Turks Gone Crazy?
The Turks have really gone crazy. One would think after taking the brunt of the blame in the UN report on the flotilla, the Palmer Report, they would tone down the rhetoric a bit, perhaps even become a bit apologetic.
Instead, they have gone on the offensive. They attack Israel even harsher, despite Israel having been mostly cleared by the same report. They continue to demand an apology from Israel, despite Israel being cleared while they are found to be at fault.
Now they have expelled most Israeli diplomats, harassed a bunch of Israeli tourists and businessmen, broken all military ties with the Israeli army, and now they are threatening to attack Cyprus!
This morning the Turks signed a military deal with the Egyptians. Seemingly it is to fill the void created by breaking the ties with Israel. I don't know how true that is, as it takes more than two days to work out such deals and arrangements. This is something they must have been working on for a long time. The timing of the announcement however makes it look suspicious, as if it is an attempt to hit Israel. I am not even sure why it is seen as such a threat.
Sure, we are not quite sure what our future relationship with Egypt will be, considering the uncertainty in Egypt regarding the government and how they want to consider Israel and the peace treaty. However, despite that, they could have signed such an agreement all along until now - we are at peace with Israel, and it looks like the Israeli government will do everything in its power to keep that, and to try to keep Egypt on track.
It looks like the Turks have simply flipped out. Like they are now going to do whatever they can, any little thing, that they think will upset the Israelis.

The relationship between Turkey and Israel these days is like the one between a spoiled chld throwing a temper tantrum and a patient parent waiting for the kid to finish screaming. The more the parent fails to respond, the more the kid screams in order to elicit a response.
ReplyDeleteTurkey has, for a couple of years, been trying to elicit an openly hostile reaction from Israel and so far has failed to do so. Now comes the Palmer Report which justifies Israel and so the Turkish tantrum just accelerates.
Why? The Turks know that Israel attacking you is a badge of distinction in the Arab world. They want Israel to become hostile so they can pose as "defenders of the faith" and leaders of the Muslim defence against Israeli "aggression", something that simply hasn't happened until now. No wonder they're frustrated.
yeah that treaty with egypt is a winner. they ditched a world leader in low cost, hi end military technology, a country with a successful economy, for some place that can't feed its own people and which very well may go bankrupt in a few months. sounds like a winner to me.
