whats the big deal? It is argued that Judaic law is compatible as well. Jews have their own schools, beit din and other gov't type institutions. So why not the muslims?
Jews have never been a threat to western society and democratic countries. While Jews have suppressed and even rejected the parts of the Torah that might be in defiance to western democracy, such as slavery, the Muslims are beginning to promote Sharia Law in western countries. See the video in this post. See the recent protests in the UK.
I am not suggesting what must be done, I have absolutely no idea, just pointing to an interesting development.
I was thinking about this some more. the Muslims can already do the same thing the Jews do. Anybody can. The Jewish sub-culture is not promoting anything like Sharia Law. Any group can establish a private school system. A community can appoint courts similar to our beis din. Our beis din operates with almost no authority, as they operate almost completely as arbitration and not as a court. They can establish mosques, and they have been. They can have halal stores and community centers, and they do.
The goal of Sharia Law is not for that. It is for a different type of society operating under different rules that do not fit with American, or Western, culture and society.
