Story of Mysterious Death In Bnei Braq Is False

A few days ago I related a story that was spreading around Bnei Braq and had made it to the haredi websites. The story was of the mysterious death of a fruits and vegetables store owner who had refused to appear before Rav Wosner's beis din. The fellow died a few days later. The story was compared to the famous story of Rabbi Akiva Eiger and the divorce.

Well, it turns out, the story is not true. Not just inaccurate. Not true. Kikar is now reporting that the family went to Rav Wosner's beis din and requested clarification as to what happened. In response, Rav Wosner signed a document saying the story never happened at all, in any form. Rav Wosner writes, "Regarding what has been publicized recently as if the owner of a vegetable store had been summoned to a din torah and refused to appear. With this I want to clarify that this person had never been summoned to beis din, and he never refused to appear, and the entire story is completely false."

I guess the only true part of the story is that he died. I wonder if he was even harassing his neighboring store owner...

  1. reminds me of when only one person died from the gulf war missiles and ppl went around saying he was a rasha (or maybe mechalel shabbes). sometime late i met someone who said they personally knew him to be a very upstanding person.
