A friend of mine sent me the following message and asked me to post it. He says it is legit.

My sister was visited by an IDF Rabbi today. He explained that there are thousands, thousands, of soldiers who are begging him for Tzitzit, which they refer to as the "real armor".
He does not have enough to satisfy their wishes to do this mitzvah. Here is a way we can support our IDF: A pair of army regulation tzitzit costs $8-$10.
