Hannukah-style opening ceremony at Israeli football game (video)

isn't it great that we get some pirsumei nissa before a soccer game with thousand sin attendance? Not just Hatikva, but a Hanukkah candle lighting ceremony!

As my brother said (he is the one who videoed it) - the irony of this ceremony opening at a game played by a team called Maccabee in an Israeli sport stadium...

I've said similarly before - it is like the irony of secular Jews celebrating Hanukkah which commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over the Greeks and putting a stop to the hellenization of the Jews.

Well, as long as the Maccabee team won, all is good.. it would be better if the team they had played and beaten was the team from Greece...

  1. I think that more often than not around Hanukah time, there is a Euroleague basketball game between Maccabi TA and the leading Greek team - Panathinaikos Athens. This year, it seems they are in a different division.
