Team Israel players in the World Baseball Classic tournament don kippot for the playing of Hatikva, the national anthem...
very cool, even though I am not sure why they felt it necessary to do so. But good for them, and make us proud! so far the Israeli team is 3-0!

The "Israeli" (in quotes because there are only two actual Israelis on the team and they played a total of one inning) team isn't just 3-0 but they won this mini-tournament to qualify for the World Baseball Classic. That will be in March and Israel is hoping that a few Major League players like Ryan Braun and Ian Kinsler will join their team.
ReplyDeleteUm ... they put Kipot on for Hatikva? It's like wearing an Israeli flag for Rosh Hashana - whats the connection? Hatikva is not a religious song by any stretch of the imagination and the Kipa is not something that is worn by most representatives of the state. I'm happy they wore Kipot, but I don't see the connection
ReplyDeleteMaybe they did it for the same reason official political delegations from Israel always ensure that they have kosher food made available to them (even if nobody on the delegation normally observes kashrut).
