Measles in Bet Shemesh City Hall
The changing of the guard in Bet Shemesh (and most other cities) just happened on Tuesday of this week, with outgoing mayor Moshe Abutbol handing over the reins of the city to incoming mayor Aliza Bloch.
When Aliza Bloch took the keys of City Hall, it turns out she took more than just the keys. At the time, there was a baby infected with measles in an adjacent room. The Health Ministry is calling upon everyone present at the ceremony on Tuesday to get their vaccination against measles boosted. Mayor Bloch is going on Sunday to get herself vaccinated again, and everyone else present - guests and journalists alike - need to go get themselves vaccinated as soon as possible.

STOP SPREADING MEASLES!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?
If you dont want to vaccinate your kids, at least dont take them out in public and put everyone else at risk. Someone caused this baby to be infected, and then it spreads further.

It's good she's getting re-vaccinated, but it might send the wrong message. Once you're infected, a vaccination doesn't help. She's making it seem as if you can wait to get vaccinated until you get measles.
ReplyDeleteas far as I can tell, this is not her initiative but she is following instructions from the health ministry
ReplyDeletefrom the website of the CDC at https://www.cdc.gov/measles/hcp/index.html
ReplyDeletePeople exposed to measles who cannot readily show that they have evidence of immunity against measles should be offered post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) or be excluded from the setting (school, hospital, childcare). MMR vaccine, if administered within 72 hours of initial measles exposure, or immunoglobulin (IG), if administered within six days of exposure, may provide some protection or modify the clinical course of disease among susceptible persons.
Sigh... I have a friend who's become an anti-vaxer. There are studies she's shown me that show "contaminates" in the inert ingredients in Glaxo Smith stuff. Now IDK if those studies are true. But I can hear that post production and storage can happen. I would be interested in someone doing a real study on that. Of course the vaccines prevent disease. Of course they need to be given. But I have no issues with a study (by normal people, not people looking for a conclusion to fit their facts) to see 1. A comparison of production and storage between the US, Israel & Canada, 2. A comparison of the inert parts in different countries. Look, I agree contamination can happen, and that is a part of life. I've no issues with making things better and safer. I just wish these same people who are quick to burn an indian hair sheitel when the gedolim say so would be as quick to vaccinate. But I guess that goes to show you everyone is a "pick and choose" Jew to some extent.
ReplyDeleteLFD yours is a horrible reply. Your laissez faire attitude, to each his/her own, might be ok for religious practice, choice of schools, bread or wraps, etc. but not for prevention of spreading harmful & deadly diseases. Not vaccinating your children aside from unusual circumstances is bordering on criminal neglect if not abuse. Otherwise, why do we need fluoride in water? Garbage & sanitation pick up--let's all dump it in the park for compost. Antivaxxers ignore the facts..no small pox, pneumonia numbers down, who dies or has lasting illness of whooping cough, mumps, measles, flu virus, diphtheria, measles, polio, etc? Only people in poorest of countries and knuckleheads where vaccinations are available. Improvement in public health and advances in clean environment have mightly contributed to disease control and prevention. But regardless if we totally disagree on the extent of public health advances, the facts tell us vaccinations are a primary factor in communicable disease reductions, are overwhelmingly safe among most populations, and we can eradicate certain diseases en toto with time and 100percent coverage. No sports team wins each and every competition but that doesn't mean you give up trying. In this case of antivaxxers, you're sacrificing the health and lives of yourself, gambling with your children's and those of others in society. That's criminal. Antivaxxers deserve criminal sanctions.

DeleteHarold, help me to understand. I said "Of course the vaccines prevent disease. Of course they need to be given."
DeleteAll I'm saying is that medical protocol can always be improved on. I'm also just curious about differences in protocol in different places.
To make it clear, I think antivaxxers are nuts. But if I threw out every nut who espouses conspiracy theories from my Shabbos table, I'd have lots of people who would have nowhere to eat. And they have the most uh,...interesting? Divrei Torah...kinda scary but I digress.
BTW, my father A'H died from post polio syndrome. He had to go through that nightmare twice. I despise people who are devastating others by stupidity. That being said, I see no harm in improving how we give vaccines, or any medical treatment, and always look to improve our understanding of medical safety protocol.
And "Flat Earthers" are fun Shabbos guests too. My table is never boring, I can tell you that!
DeleteOh, and happy Thanksgiving.
