Store becomes shul but still gets fined

store owners have been upset that this round of easing up of the lockdown restrictions included opening shuls indoors with up to 10 people yet left businesses completely closed. They complained that if it is safe to have indoor gatherings with up to 10 people, why only in shul and not in a store?

Once again, some stores tried to be witty and outsmart the government and hung a sign reinventing the store as a shul, which would theoretically allow up to 10 people at a time inside the structure.

Guess what - it does not work. Call it what you want, they know what you are trying to do. Some police might turn a blind eye, but others won't.

Today in Ramat Gan the owner of a clothing store was given a fine of 5000 for doing just that. he opened his store and called it a Bet Knesset. It didn't work, but maybe a few of his customers prayed along the way and it increased the prayers of the nation. Maybe he told customers to pray so it would really be a shul in some way. Maybe they prayed they would find appropriate clothing. Or maybe they prayed that they wouldn't catch the virus while there!

Israel police says they look askance at such behavior and breaking of the rules and will enforce such acts very strictly

  1. You sound like a kindergarten teacher telling over a story.

Instead of sympathizing with the small businesses you boast victory.

  2. He is sympathizing with the families of those customets and the customers themselves, which are going to get infected with the virus.
