The other day some people in the government started talking about the possibility, or expectation, that another lockdown is on the way and would be put in place for Chanukka. Similar to previous lockdowns, this would be to avoid large family get togethers for a holiday that would spread the virus out of control. Necessary or not I don't know, but it makes as much sense as the previous lockdowns for the holidays. (though tonight Professor Gamzu, outgoing Corona Czar, said he does not see a third lockdown in the horizon)

Tonight the news is reporting that the government is considering canceling the annual school vacation on Chanukka. They would cancel the vacation to ease the burden on the working parents, who have been struggling to work as it is, between layoffs, furloughs, lockdowns and school closures.

It sounds like a good plan (and hopefully would stick for coming years, similar to some of the rule changes made by Major League Baseball for just the 2020 season that look like they will now be kept for coming seasons as well), but if there will be a holiday lockdown it doesn't seem necessary to cancel school vacation, both because [most] parents won't be working and because the kids won't be going to school anyway. A lockdown that has everyone working as usual and kids going to school just doesn't seem like much of a lockdown....

I guess we'll have to just wait and see which one of the two actually happens..
