Quote of the Day
If we will be in power we will not transfer money to settlements - the time has come to organize a new set of priorities in the State of Israel... The time has come to bring the money back to the working citizens, to the working communities and neighborhoods.. Smotritch Economics needs to come to an end..
-- Yair Golan, Chairman of the Democrats Party
you can disagree on priroties of spending, you can be against funding settlements...but are "settlers" not working people? for the most part they are. The vast majority of them work and serve in the army

And this is why he will remain an irrelevant side figure.
ReplyDeleteLabour collapsed when they abandoned "Israel first" and adopted "It's all about making the so-called Palestinians happy".
If he said "We're going to balance out funding so that everyone gets more money and support", that's a classic Labour position but this is another one of those "We still think Oslo is valid and support it!" positions that 95% of Jews in Israel rolls their eyes at.
"Settlers are charedim" is something ignorant non-Israelis think. Looks like Golan has decided to be a happy ignoramus.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, of all things, Smotrich actually gets very good marks regarding his handling of the economy, his actual job.
I believe that the 2 biggest cities in Judea and Samaria are Modi'in Illit and Beitar Illit, and the percentage of people who work in those towns is very low, so there is an element of truth to Golan's statement.
ReplyDeleteHowever his policies are still horrific at every level, and I hope that he is not in a position of power after the next election
I'd beg to differ, Efrat/Gush Etzion is probably the biggest city in Judea and Samaria and the tax roll is quite heavy from those hard working residents, businesses and corporations.
