Facebook Status of the Day

I am not sure what I think of this. I am conflicted.

On the one hand, very cool. Amazing that they got away with it. Significant, I guess that a Jewish wedding ritual took place on Har Habayit after so many years.

On the other hand, how sad is it that it had to be done so surreptitiously? How sad that they are so proud of something they had to sneak to do, and even after the fact have to keep most of it secret? How proud that in the Jewish State, with supposed freedom of religion and religious worship this is how such ceremonies need to be performed, like Marranos in 1492 Spain?

halelu choir promo video for pesach concert (video)

this is a great chazzanut choir and they are performing at the Waldorf Astoria in Jerusalem on Pesach Chol Hamoed. They recently organized a Shabbat Chazzanut in RBS on Shabbat Shira, and then recently were guests of the Great Synagogue in Jerusalem for a Shabbos there...

Proposed Law: letting businesses stay closed on Shabbos

MK Yigal Guetta (Shas) has proposed a law that would disallow the forcing of a business to open on Shabbos.

The current law makes it illegal to force an employee to work on Shabbos when he does not want to. It does not deal with businesses at all - i.e. there is nothing illegal about forcing a business to remain open on Shabbos, the way Sarona Market recently tried to force a vendor to stay open on Shabbos due to contractual obligations despite the vendor preferring to close.

According to Guetta's proposal, it would be illegal to do so, and even a clause on a commercial contract would not be able to force the business to stay open.

good proposal, in my opinion

Trump not so kosher [for Pesach] in Israel

This has a funny aspect to it, but it also is a serious announcement.

Trump Vodka, considered, for whatever reason, to be kosher for Pesach, is NOT kosher for Pesach.

The article in the JPost that alerted me of this has other interesting points as well, such as how Trump Vodka, which is really just labeled using the Trump name but not actually made by Trump, has been discontinued everywhere except in Israel.

So, Trump is the only one to not abandon Israel. Yet people question whether or not he will really be there for us, should he become President of the USA.

Also, some people call Trump a TV star who is a fraud with no real positions, and just makes things up as he goes along. If that's really the case, then his vodka is as false as he is (and if not, the vodka is falser).

But seriously, don't just assume Trump Vodka is kosher for Pesach. Make sure it is, and if you don't know, assume it is not.

replace your cellphone for Pesach

this is an awesome pashkevil. It is an ad, couched in a new made-up chumra for Pesach, designed to look like a pashkevil.

It encourages people to buy new (kosher, of course) cellphones for Pesach because there are so many crevices in cellphones that make it very difficult to be sure and confident that you have gotten all the crumbs out..

I wonder if in a few years this won't become a standard chumra...

Picture of the Day

That is Minister Uri Ariel and his wife on a return trip from Turkey, sitting in Economy Class on the airplane. Mrs. Ariel paid for her own ticket, as her trip accompanying Uri was private and personal, and Uri chose to sit in Economy Class instead of having the government pay $5000 for his ticket in Business Class or First Class. From personal knowledge, Ariel is also on the tall side, so I am sure he was a bit cramped in there. When other passengers realized who he is, they were surprised and impressed that he was sitting in Economy, unlike the other Ministers who travel regularly to Turkey.

Apr 10, 2016

I need you.. to help me help others..

(this post will be a sticky post for as long as I leave it here.. keep scrolling down for new posts)

Have I ever said, written, or done anything that made you just wish you could push me out of an airplane?

Now is your chance.

Sort of.

You can kill two birds with one stone - do a great mitzva, while vicariously pushing me out of an airplane.

Make a donation in my name to Alyn Hospital, a pediatric hospital for disabled children, the only one of its kind in all of Israel, and that will allow someone to push me out of an airplane.

The Sky is the Limit with Alyn will have me skydiving on Pesach to benefit the children of Alyn Hospital. I should be getting a video recording of the event, so you will be able to enjoy my getting pushed out of an airplane, because of your donations, from the comfort of your own home.

It might be crazy, it might be safe. They say it is safe. We'll find out soon enough.

So, donate to Alyn in my name. It is a simple process. And it is a great mitzva.

I figure that with the 2000-3000 readers Google statistics say read my blog daily, if most people just gave a small amount, just a few shekels or dollars, I should surpass by far the minimum fundraising level in no time at all!

Isn't this far more interesting and exciting than asking you to sponsor me in running a marathon, like so many other people do?

So, please donate to Alyn. Give a small amount of tzedaka to Alyn so that I can get pushed out of an airplane...

Just go to my Alyn funding page and click the donate button...
