The Haredim (video)
The Haredim
Journalist Amnon Levi created a documentary about the Haredi community in Israel. Below is part 2 of the documentary, and it was just aired this week. There are some interesting issues discussed in this episode, such as his analysis of their relationship with the state and army. Levi comes to the conclusion that many haredim actually want to go to the army but are prevented from doing so. The secular community is also left to blame, according to Levi, both for the army situation and for the working situation, for giving the haredim the deferments and for allowing the situation to happen. There is also a new "sector" defined, that being "Haredi Zionist".

My wife and I were bowled over by the sensitivity of this program. Although Amnon Levi is himself secular, he brought a refreshing and sympathetic approach that was riveting and will certainly change many pre-conceptions.
ReplyDeleteKol HaKavod to the producers of this wonderful program.
