Best response to idea of Haredi autonomy
The idea floated by Hamodia regarding establishing Haredi autonomy was all the talk yesterday, both in print, on the radio and on the Internet, and much of it has been very entertaining.. The best comment I saw about the idea was that of Akiva Novick, the reporter for Haredi affairs of Yediot.
Novick said :
On a practical level, in order to establish autonomy many more haredim would need to go out to work than the number that will need to under Yair Lapid's plan. This plan is not the official position of Agudat Yisrael but is a headline of an article in Hamodia that is trying to compete with the idiocy of Yated Neeman about coming pogroms and guillotines... At this rate, in the coming days one of the Haredi newspapers will actually declare war on the State of Israel!
There is no doubt that the Haredi community is the champion of chessed, and they know how to establish amazing organizations like Zaka and Ezer mTzion, but it is clear to any intelligent person that it is not practical to establish autonomy. And if they insist, they should try for a year forgoing the budgets for kollels and yeshivas and then they will know how practical it is.
