Proposed law: more child allowances
if you thought only the Haredi parties want to increase child allowances, think again.
MK Anat Barco (Likud) has submitted a law proposal that would increase child allowances. I tw would not increase the amount of the allowance, but it would increase the amount of time the allowance is given to parents.
Barco says that our soldiers do not get paid a reasonable amount of money. This causes parents to really be supporting their children not just until 18, as has always been thought, but through their army service.
Barco's law proposal would have the government continue giving the child allowances until the child's compulsory army service is completed. The proposal would also give parents a tax credit for the same time period.

I think this is discriminatory against Haredim who, for the most part, do not serve in the army. the law proposal should include a clause giving parents of yeshiva students the child allowances until the child finishes his yeshiva studies...

Single parents (even if your kids are serving. The help available is for parents who are practically destitute but the few helps that existed age 18 evaporate the moment they turn 18. But you are still paying for their upkeep. In fact the army sends them home every week to eat, shower and use your washer (supposedly they are supposed to get a job in the few hours before Shabbat afternoon to help out with the family finances) and usually with a friend or two in tow. No recognition that you are still supporting them.for years to come..

ReplyDeleteIt's ok. The government can vote to subsidize soldiers' families if it so chooses. Just like the Charedi parties can threaten to leave the coalition unless their kollel boys get included in the stipend.
ReplyDeleteIt's not discrimination against Charedim. Charedim are free to have their children join the Army or National Service and reap the same benefits. Charedim discriminate, in the sense that they make a choice between two options.
ReplyDelete+1 to Avi. It is not discrimination.
