Hadassah MRI machine stuck to ceiling

This is a serious "oops". Had the guy gotten killed in the process, it might even have been deserving of a Darwin award nomination. Thankfully, he was only a shlemazel and got only lightly injured.

A member of the cleaning staff of Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem went into the room with the MRI machine. He was cleaning and polishing the floor, and somehow did not know, or see the signs, about the fact that the MRI machine is basically a huge and powerful magnet.

Before you enter a room with an MRI machine, you must remove anything on your body that has any metal.  A polish machine has an awful lot of metal in it.

This cleaning fellow walked into the MRI room and BAM!! the machine got ripped out of his hands and went flying, and slammed into the machine and the ceiling.

The MRI was damaged badly in the process. The even funnier, sadder, thing is that the other MRI machine owned by Hadassah was also already on the DL waiting for a Siemens serviceman to come repair it. So Hadassah Hospital right now, for an unclear amount of time, has no working MRI machine.

The cleaning crew member is just lucky the machine did not whack him in the head or rip off his arm in the process.

  1. The cleaning of an MRI room ought to be scheduled ONLY while the MRI machine is off.

    1. You can't turn off an MRI machine it takes several days to power fully up.
The most is that it's put in a standby mode, but the magnet is never de-energized except in a very serious need.
