It's kind of sad that some of the frum types seem so knowledgeable of homiletical interpretations that they don't know basic pshat. (Or the fact that a sin isn't a shin.) There was no one who could say, "After the Assyrian exile, Yehuda was the biggest shevet left?"
Of course, it's also sad that some of the secular types know even less.
