They should have made it clear that the two Batei Mikdash and the Third and Eternal Beit HaMikdash were and will(we pray will soon be) always be where the Temple Mt. is, Har HaMoriah, the location of Akeidat Yitzchak, which is holy ground. Herod was a usurper king who murdered the Sages of Israel; he was a Roman slave (think 'Hittite'). He then felt remorse for the murders and at the advice of the remaining Sage, he renovated the second Temple.
