fines for littering approved
The Constitution, Law and Justice Committee of the Knesset just approved a new directive.
Anyone leaving litter on the beaches of the Jordan River and the Kinneret, will be subject to a 475nis fine. Similar fines will be given for burning fires, such as bonfires and barbecues, in areas where it is prohibited, along with anyone who causes damage to beaches or parks in the Jordan Valley region.
That's a start. Now they should introduce, and enforce, similar fines for people littering and damaging park equipment all around the country, not just in the Jordan Valley. And then also for littering int he streets, not just in parks and beaches.
I guess they'll have to install cameras along the beaches and in the parks to monitor who is littering and causing damage. bonfires and barbecues might be easier to track as they take a lot of time and regular patrols should be able to catch them on the job most of the time.
