why we all use the same tune when lighting Chanukah candles (video)
interesting. i had no idea. They find the source but don't really explain how it spread and became the one tune for everybody. I would like to know that.

Would be interested to know how almost all communities also use a single tune for Maoz Tzur, even though there are other tunes out-there, and you often hear them on the radio (there is a beutiful Bretzlev tune), but I've never attended a candle lighting with a different tune for Maoz Tzor. No idea where the "traditional" tune came from, or how it became widespread, but it sounds very European.
basically and briefly, the source for the tune is from a chazzan/rav of the conservative movement under 100 years ago. as I said, they found the source (assuming they are correct) but didnt offer an explanation as to how this tune became so popular that everyone uses it.
