don't demand too much
The news is reporting that PM Benjamin Netanyahu called Yanki Kanievsky, the grandson and confidant of Rav Chaim Kanievsky, and explained the seriousness of the coming lockdown and requested cooperation in closing the schools. Netanyahu even called this a new plague because of the mutation.
According to the report, during their conversation, Yanki Kanievsky told PM Netanyahu that his grandfather Rav Chaim has given instruction to close the schools "for a few days".
I don't know what a "few days" means. Maybe it means from tonight until Sunday. Or maybe longer.
I am a little surprised that Bibi was satisfied with that response. A few days? The lockdown is for two weeks, minimum. Maybe he figured he'll take what he can get for now, and try to extend it later when the "few days" is finished.
I think that is a reasonable approach, from Netanyahu's perspective. Arguing now might go nowhere, as two weeks or more of shutting the schools is too much - tafasta meruba lo tafasta - and Rav Chaim would not be expected to agree to such a thing. Demand, insist on, a two week commitment, and Rav Chaim might just say no. Get a little bit, and then get a little bit more....
