kaddish in the Budenstag

powerful

the Speaker of the Knesset, Miki Levi, spoke in the Budenstag, the German parliament, for International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Levi concluded his speech by opening a siddur that Yad VaShem lent him that had originally been used by a German lad at his bar mitzva, and from that siddur he read and cried the kaddish, for the Jews murdered in the Holocaust.

Upon conclusion, the German Members of Parliament gave a standing ovation.

As I always say (and now there is even a book about it), the world loves dead Jews and shows them great honor.. (Jews do too, but that's not for now)

  1. No yarmulke. The old time Eastern European born politicians would never do that.

  2. in the full clip of the entire event, at about the 1:14:00 mark you can see him put on a kipa. there is a translation overlay so I am nto sure why he put it on there but I think he was quoting a passuk.
Additionally the kaddish he said is an abridged version fo some sort.

all that being said, it does not bother me at all. Miki Levi is not a religious person, though he is traditional I think. He can do what he wants. I dont need him to put on a kipa just because a kipa is important to me and it is what I wear when I say a prayer (and all the rest of the time too).
