Weiss banned, does he hold a joker?
Yisrael Dovid Weiss of Monsey, a member/leader of the radical anti-Israel Neturei Karta group, traveled to Brazil and met with the Iranian Foreign Minister
Israel's Minister of the Interior Moshe Arbel announced that Weiss will not be allowed into Israel ever again, revoking his visa. Arbel said that he would not allow anyone who works against Israel and identifies with its enemies to enter the country.
Good move, but I am curious. If one day Weiss wakes up and says he wants to move to Israel, to make aliyah.... will he be allowed to or will the ban still stand? The Law of Return assures every Jew (or descendant of Jews) the right to make aliyah. Does Arbel's decision override the Law of Return or will that be his joker?

Picture of the Day
That is Yisrael Dovid Weiss of the Neturei Karta from Monsey participating in a conference supporting Hamas in Tehran, Iran on Shabbos
This normally would have been an image I would just pass over but just yesterday I read an article in Mishpacha magazine (Hebrew edition) that reviewed the history of Neturei Karta (including interviews of people involved), how it was formed and what they do and the like and how they have changed over the years so this struck me as interesting at the moment I saw it.

Satmar vs Neturei Karta
Satmar is thought of as being an extremely anti-Zionist hassidic group, led by the Satmar Rebbe, following the writings of Rav Yoel Teitelbaum against Zionism. And they are. But Satmar has historically differentiated between the State of Israel and the Jews of Israel. While Satmar opposed the State of Israel, it has supported the Jews of Israel, especially in times of trouble.
There are famous stories of how politicians approached the Satmar Rebbe looking for support and being somewhat familiar with his opposition to Israel spoke against the US continuing support for Israel with financial and military aid only to be castigated by the Rebbe who then explained to his hassidim that 1. his fight is internal, between brothers, but when the non-Jews join in and dont want to support Israel that is just antisemitism, and 2. while he is opposed to the State of Israel, when Israel is in a time of trouble and under attack, the people of Israel are still his Jewish brothers and he supports them.
The Neturei Karta never seemed to make such a distinction and always opposed Israel, even when it was under attack and even supporting people who want to destroy Israel and kill Israelis. I never really understood how they could advocate for the enemies of Israel who would kill Jews because of their hatred for Israel. I dont mind people being anti-zionists (I mean, I do, but people are entitled to their own opinions), but helping the enemy who wants to kill Jews????
The Satmar Rebbe has now attacked Neturei Karta for this very thing.
The Satmar Rebbe (or one of them at least), Rav Yekusiel Yehuda Teitelbaum, aka Rav Zalman Leib, has attacked Neturei Karta saying that they think they have a continuing tradition but are really doing things on their own with no support form the tzadikim of any generation.
The Rebbe said that even in the days of the Satmar Rebbe they acted in ways that hurt him and he spoke against them. We see today that they go places and cooperate with the Arabs while strengthening them in their murderous acts all while wearing bekeshe and shtreimel and stand with haters of Jews and murderers.
The Rebbe said this is a chilul hashem of the highest magnitude and their actions are proof that when one acts without daas torah one can get to the craziest of places crossing every red line along the way.

Tweet of the Day
As a Jewish community, we boycott McDonald's due to its support for the occupying Zionist Israel.
— Torah Judaism (@TorahJudaism) October 15, 2023
Such companies are definitely a major obstacle to peace. We invite everyone to boycott McDonald's.
Zionists are not Jews.
Zionism is not Judaism.#BoycottMcDonalds pic.twitter.com/FLs7PaAiMW
Meaning, they normally eat the treif burgers, the cheeseburgers, the McNuggets, the McRibs and all the other chazer treif sold there but now they will boycott because of McDonalds stance on Israel. I guess they will have to switch over to eating Burger King or Wendy's (though I do not know their positions no Israel)...

bobbing for apples
Those 3 Neturei Karta folk who went to Jenin recently to commiserate with terrorists have bene in all sorts of trouble since, being detained, arrested, and all that jazz.
Interestingly, according to Kikar, while in court for a hearing about extending his remand, Mr Neturei Karta requested an escort from the court so he could go to the mikva. He claimed, via his lawyer, that he is on a hunger strike of sorts because he cannot eat without first going to the mikva.
I thought men's mikva immersion nowadays is mostly for prayer, with an element of kedusha. I dont think I ever heard of it having to do with food (unlike in the days of old when mikva was need for tahara to be able to touch certain foods).
Anyway, the court said this has nothing to do with the courts and is up to the Prison Services administration and that is where he should make his request.

throw the book at him
One of the Neturei Karta folk who went to Jenin the other day has been arrested.
I have no problem with anybody not liking the State of Israel for whatever reason. I also have no problem with anyone in particular being opposed to the existence of the State of Israel (for religious or political reasons). Acting to dismantle the State of Israel is another story, but beyond talk not many are doing anything practical to dismantle the State so that isnt all that significant, though we must put our efforts forth to oppose their efforts.
All that being said, opposing the State of Israel is vastly different than actually meeting with terrorists and heads of enemy states or organizations and supporting them. You might not like the State of Israel but why would you support people who want to kill and harm Jews? That is going way beyond simply opposing the State of Israel.
I have no idea if what he and his friends did the other day was legal or illegal, but if they can get him on something, I have no problem with them throwing the book at him. Not because he is anti-Israel but because he is anti-Jewish and helps people who try to kill Jews.

from RBS to Jenin
A delegation of Neturei Karta went to the Palestinian town of Jenin today in a solidarity march, showing solidarity with the residents for supposedly suffering daily Israeli attacks.. ie showing solidarity with terrorists who are searched for by the IDF.
When I heard a delegation went I assumed the normal 15 or 20 people, give or take, maybe even five or ten. All the pictures I have seen only show two, so I am happy that it is an unimpressive showing by Neturei Karta and maybe their numbers are dwindling.
After the new published the following picture of the delegation, local Bet Shemesh residents called/wrote in to say that the fellow on the right is a fellow resident of Bet Shemesh, residing in RBS B.
Just as they say not all superheroes wear capes, it seems not all Neturei Karta wear samets and kaftans. Why isn't Minister Ben Gvir evicting the likes of these people?

Let My People Go
There is some crazy story happening right now with a 21 year old Israeli anti-Zionist seeking asylum in England because he wants to avoid the Israeli draft. He is seeking asylum based on on Israel being an apartheid state and how it treats the Palestinians, and he does not want to be a part of that and would prefer death over being drafted to the IDF.
Initially his court case in Manchester was delayed because he refuses to speak Hebrew, the language of the Zionists, for which they had a translator, but insisted on speaking Yiddish, a language for which the court had no translator. It does not see like it should be difficult to find people in Manchester who can speak both Yiddish and English and translate for them, but whatever. It seems this case is in court because until now the United Kingdom Home Office has refused to grant asylum due to Israel not being considered a state that is dangerous form which people can be granted asylum. Palestinians can get asylum but that is generally from Palestine oppression, not Israeli.
I guess we cannot really hope for the United Kingdom to grant asylum from Israel, as that would likely mean setting a bad precedent for how Israel is categorized in the Western World, but I do think Israel should be happy to be rid of this person and others like him. Israeli policy should be to let leave any of these people who want to. Good riddance. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
The only problem is who would take them. Where can they go.
They are generally not really productive members of society so I don't expect to see countries welcoming them with open arms or clamoring to attract them. Maybe they can find their homes in Eastern European or African countries.
To misuse one of Mordechai Ben David's best songs, let my people go. Israel should work to find a country willing to take these people in, any of them that want to leave, and be rid of them and of the trouble they cause.

Pashkevil of the Day
Someone or some group, presumably extreme anti-zionists such as Neturei Karta or similar, have put up these broadsides on Jerusalem walls...
The pashkevil is announcing the "last warning" to the Haredi Members of Knesset. They are being warned that if they continue negotiations with the Israeli government and the IDF over trafficking in thousands of souls that will be lost for jobs and seats in the Knesset of Heretics and for fat budgets, the Jewish community will perform the Pulsa Denura curse on them and on their assistants, including blowing of the shofar, black candles and strong curses!

Chevron Yeshiva reopens in Hebron by Neturei Karta
Kikar is reporting that a group of Neturei Karta activists went into the old building of the Knesset Yisrael - Chevron Yeshiva in Hebron, with the cooperation and agreement of local Hebron [Palestinian] residents and, sort of, reopened the yeshiva.
They plan to learn there and even bring more yeshiva students in, for the summer semester and onward.
According to the article, the negotiations were handled secretly so Zionist forces would not thwart them. As well, there is mutual respect between them and their Palestinian neighbors and they look forward to living together in peace and tranquility as it was in the past before the Zionists came along and ruined everything.
Being that the Zionists were not the ones living in Hebron in 1929 and operating the Chevron Yeshiva associated with Slabodka, but the Zionists were already active in other parts of the country, there is no reason to think Zinonists being in other parts of the country now will effect any different of a reaction than the reaction "caused" by Zionists in other parts of the country in 1929.
As much as I don't like the Neturei Karta people, I hope ad pray they will not be slaughtered one day by their new neighbors, as had been done right there in the past, but that they will live in peace and tranquility among them. Expanding the Jewish enterprise in the Holy Land is a wonderful thing, even if it is not being done in the name of a Zionist government.

Omar refused the Neturei Karta
It has been reported (YWN, Behadrei) that members of the Neturei Karta went down to Congress to try to meet with Representative Ilhan Omar. They wanted to show support and thank her for her stance against Israel.
It turns out that Omar had no interest in meeting with them and refused the invitation.
The reason Omar refused is unknown..
I was able to think of two possible reasons for her refusal..
1. she is an anti-semite and does not want to meet with them, especially because they look so Jewish rather than like Liberal Left Progressive Jews. Perhaps she does not know about their anti-Israel stance and just [wrongly?] assumed she needs to hate them as well.
2. Perhaps she did her homework and knows all about the Neturei Karta. She did not want to meet with them so nobody could accuse her of being an anti-semite, and prefers to just leave the accusations to be based on things she said which she can easily claim were misunderstood, whereas a visual of her hanging out with the NKs would be more of a problem..
What are the other options

After 70 years of the Zionist state, I am happy to tell you that your concerns have proven false
Yehuda Meshi Zahav is an interesting fellow. His uncle was Rav Amram Bloi, famed head of the Neturei Karta and avowed anti-Zionist. Meshi Zahav grew up in that direction as well, living in Mea Shearim, protesting against everything Israel, being arrested numerous times for activities against the state and violence during the protests he arranged or participated in. At a later stage in his life Meshi Zahav did a complete turn around and is now a supporter of Israel. His sons have served and continue to serve in the IDF and he is openly proud of them. I would be remiss in not mentioning that he founded ZAKA, that does tremendously important work, though I think it is less relevant in this regard.
Yehuda Meshi Zahav has now written this letter to his uncle Rav Amram Bloi, entitled "After 70 years of the Zionist state, I am happy to tell you that your concerns have proven false". It is a brilliant letter and I am posting the original Hebrew below, and hopefully my brief translation won't mangle it too much.
Meshi Zahav writes:

It is a brilliant letter and I am posting the original Hebrew below, and hopefully my brief translation won't mangle it too much.
Meshi Zahav writes:
In my youth I was a small soldier in the system, when I joined in the protests that you headed - whether it was the protests every Shabbos against chilul shabbos, or during the week against any other breech. For me you were the leader, the unrelenting fighter, one who would not compromise on any of the principles of Judaism. I remember standing with you astonished each time anew at the blows you would receive from the police, or when you were repeatedly arrested. We grew up on the stories of your heroism, such as when you smashed your head through the window of the ticket booth of the Edison Theater while the police were hitting you with their nightsticks until you lost consciousness, in order to prevent chilul shabbos.
On your knees I was raised and educated. From your mouth we heard again and again about the great danger hidden in the Zionist state, so much so that more than once you tried to cross the border and take protection under the government of Jordan. We heard about the decrees against religion of the Zionist government, whose entire goal was to take the nation of Israel away from its belief and religion. We heard your warnings about how within a few years there would be nothing left of Am Yisrael, We learned form you the importance of Isolation in regards to everything regarding the State: not to benefit from the State's monies and not to participate in elections and one who does is like participating in idol worship. I remember you once said that the Zionists are the greatest enemy of the Jewish people, even worse than the Greeks who tried to destroy Am Yisrael.
In your public speeches I would be shocked from the stories of different incidents in ways the Zionist leadership tried to destroy Am Yisrael. You called them the "Cantonist decrees". You said the Zionists are responsible for all the troubles of Am Yisrael, including the horrific Holocaust.
As I grew up, in the heat and passion in the belief of your ways, I too was involved in organizing protests. I was arrested many times, my bones were shattered from the blows of the nightsticks of the "Zionist stormtroopers". But you taught us that every red bruise on the body from these blows is another level and sign of praise in the ladder of mesirus nefesh, so we did not even feel the pain.
Todaym after 70 years of the Zionist state, mercy upon us, I am happy to inform you, my dear uncle z"l, that your concerns have proven false: We have a Jewish Zionist state that is wonderful and amazing, that serves as a wonderful example to all the nations of the world. She is flourishing in just about every realm: security, economy, education, health, absorption, and in Judaism. About 7 million Jews - more than 50% of the Jewish people - already live in Israel and Jerusalem alone is approaching 1 million residents, something that might not even have happened in the time of the Beis Hamikdash.
Who would have believed that 73 years after the horrific Holocaust, in which Am Yisrael was nearly wiped out, mercy upon us, and there was almost no trace left of the Torah and Hassidic worlds, that we would have our own Jewish state. The State of Israel. A state in which the Torah world would flourish in a way that it never before did in the history of Am Yisrael. From the time of King Hizkiyahu there was never so much Torah learning in the Land of Israel as there is today, and you'll be surprised to hear who is the greatest supporter in the world of the Torah: the Zionist government. Every single year the government of Israel invests billions of shekels into the Torah world.
It is hard to believe that just 75 years ago, not hundreds of years ago, a Jew could not find a place to put his feet down. Nobody wanted us. We were the most disgraced and disparaged people, the lowest of nations, we rolled from DP camps to European forests like animals struggling daily to survive. With the end of the war, each refugee went home, to his country, but the Jews were the only ones in the world that had nowhere to go back to - not a house, nor a country. Until the State of Israel was established. Thousands of generations of Jews dreamed about a state, and behold, we are meriting to what so many others did not. The State of Israel was established against all odds.
Who will wipe the dust from your eyes, dear uncle Rav Amram, leader of the Neturei Karta, to see that in the Zionist State Of Religious destruction 73% of citizens like Chanuka candles, 78% fast no Yom Kippur, and in the last selichos at the Kotel annually more than 200,000 people participate. How much you had to fight for every street in Haredi neighborhoods to be closed on Shabbos. Today it is difficult to believe that even Mea Shearim St and Kikar Shabbos were only closed on Shabbos after innumerable rallies that you led.
At the end of 70 years of the Zionist State, there are 7 cities at the helm of which stands a Haredi representative, and their streets are closed on Shabbos and on the yomim tovim hermetically. In the other cities, in the neighborhoods where Haredim live, the streets are closed on Shabbos and on holidays, without any need for fighting.
The Neturei karta anthem, that we would sing loudly at rallies, said "in the rule of the deniers we do not believe, and in their laws we do not participate, in the way of the torah we will go through fire and water, to sanctify the name of the Heavens". We would get murderous blows, and get arrested, and we were sure we were sanctifying God's name in public and that our place in Gan Eden had been secured. And now, in the Zionist State, the level of mesirus nefesh has become the greatest level, symbolized the holy tanna, Rabbi Akiva. Close to 24,000 soldiers of the IDF have died, giving their lives al kiddush hashem, protecting with their souls and bodies, on the State of Israel and on the People of Israel.
If only you would know the amazing youth we have here. How many times a year thousands of the youth that were raised and grew up in the Zionist State gather by the remains of the Beis Hamikdash , and affirm or swear their readiness to give their lives al kiddush hashem protecting the State and am yisrael. How many tears I cried standing at this holy event, when I saw my two sons being drafted, one to Golani and one to the paratroopers, and affirming so. Nobody forced it on them. They did so of their own choice and free will.
"The State of Sodom and Gemorrah" - so you called the Zionist State in your article in Hachimah, the Neturei Karta newspaper. So listen, my dear uncle Rav Amram z"l, to how mush evil of Sodom is on this State. The state that leads the world in the number of Chessed organizations established in it. The one that is first offering help around the world in every tragedy. The State that actively illustrates the concept of shared responsibility for each other. The Zionist State does all it can to hep every Jew no matter where he is in any time of trouble or distress, and sometimes at tremendous risk and danger during operations such as Operation Jonathan. And, not just that, but most of the large chessed organizations in the Zionist State were established by Haredi people: Yad Sarah, Ezer MeTzion, the Hatzala organizations, Zaka that I head, and more and more. And these organizations are staffed by thousands of Haredi volunteers that the Zionist State has not yet succeeded in removing them from religion, mercy upon us, and they sanctify God's name in the land and around the world.
In the State of "by my power and my might", when there is concern of drought, the Minister of Agriculture calls for mass prayer at the Kotel to pray for rainfall. This is the State in which 100% of the agricultural crops are tithed according to halacha. The State that financially supports farmers who keep the laws of shmitta, to the tune of hundreds of millions of shekels.
So, rest, dear uncle Rav Amram z"l, peacefully. There is no need for any more fighting. While your generation rightfully was concerned about the Zionist State, but after 70 years it has been shown that the State of Israel, with God's help, is the one saving and protecting Am Yisrael, and it is the safest and best place to live as a Jew keeping the Torah and the mitzvos.
wow

another thank you, maybe, to Donald Trump
I was inclined to say that we now have another thing to thank Donald Trump for, but I am not sure it is correct.
Yoelish Krausz is going on record saying to the media that if the USA goes through with its plans to move the embassy to Jerusalem, fully recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the Neturei Karta will have no choice but to leave Israel, as its rabbinic leaders will not allow them to remain in Israel.
Initially I thought, thank you for this too Donald Trump. But thinking a bit further, I am not so sure. The place for every Jew is in the Land of Israel. Even the ones I don't like. Even the ones that make trouble.
I don't know why they would have to leave. Why does recognition form the USA change anything? The Neturei Karta people dont have to recognize Jerusalem as the capital just because the USA does. Why can't they continue to live in Eretz Yisrael just because the USA recognizes Jerusalem as the capital?
Anyways, it might be a shame if they leave, but maybe we'll clear out some of the goons from RBS B in the process. I am very torn on this.

Extremists to Leave! Dayeinu
It seems US President Donald Trump has informed head of the PA Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of his intentions to now fulfill his campaign promise regarding moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
There is a lot to discuss about this.
The best part of it though, in my opinion, is the report Kikar has in which the extremists of Jerusalem say this is the final straw and if it actually gets announced it could cause them to leave Eretz Yisrael for other countries!
I am not sure who they think they are threatening and who will be sad about this, if it happens. Maybe they think the residents of the potential countries they might move to might be upset and threatened by the thought of possibly having them as neighbors soon and therefore might pressure Trump to cancel his plans. I don't think too many people in Israel outside of Mea Shearim and RBS B will miss them.
If all the embassy move accomplishes is to get the extremist thugs out of our lives, dayeinu

the new Moshe Aryeh Friedman
remember this guy?
that is Moshe Aryeh Friedman, of the Neturei Karta crazies.
His new look is, as can be seen on his Facebook page, has him having drastically changed his dress code:
Haredi news sites (Kooker, Kikar, etc) are reporting from a "friend" that Friedman's new style is an indication that he wants to be less frum, changing his lifestyle and being less interested in keeping Torah and mitzvos.
considering what he was before, it is mostly a lifestyle change and not a change in his level of frumkeit, but that's his personal issue, and just choosing short jackets and colored shirts and a different hat does not mean someone is not frum, though that is what his friend thinks it means.
Anyways, that is more of a discussion for sociologists.
The question I have, that isn't mentioned in the article, is he still rabidly anti-Israel? Is that part of his life being changed as well? Will he continue meeting with the Iranians and locking arms with Palestinian protesters?
