As we walked by an Arab worker fixing the tiling in a sidewalk, he was suffering from "plumber's crack syndrome" where the seat of his pants rides down way too far as he bends over.. my daughter saw him stick his hands in his pants as well.

My daughter said to her friend she was walking with, "Ewww, if he was a yehudi, and he was my cousin and he wanted to hug me I wouldn't hug him"..

At least she has some standards...

I brought my 3 year old son to shul with me yesterday afternoon when I went to daven mincha. I don't take him often because he is a bit noisy (even his whisper voice is very loud), though I keep thinking that next time he won't be so every now and then I try again.

So we start mincha and I am saying shmoneh esrei. At some point I closed my eyes to concentrate. A moment later he asked me, in a very loud whisper voice, why I am sleeping. I started to laugh. Then he asked me again, and he even closed his eyes and said "why are you sleeping like this?"

I couldn't keep a straight face anymore and had to finish up and step out...

I went to a wedding the other night. My wife couldn't go, so I was going it alone. My 5 year old saw me in my suit, and asked me where I was going, or if it is shabbos.

I told her I am going to a chasuna. She asked, "also mommy?"

I said, no just me.

So she inquired further, "this chasuna is only for daddies, not mommies?"...

On Friday, as we were cleaning up for shabbos, one of my kids turned on the music.

My five year old daughter asked me when Tisha B'Av is over. I said to her that Tisha B'Av was yesterday, not today. She asked again, "No! When does Tisha B'Av end??"

I said, Tisha B'Av was yesterday and it finished last night.

She said again "When does Tisha B'Av end??"

I repeated, last night so today we can listen to music.

She asked curiously "Tisha B'Av ended? The Beis HaMikdash was built?"

It seems like 5 year old understand better than adults what "Tisha B'Av ending should really mean...

Yesterday, while driving in the car, my 5 year old daughter suddenly said, "There is a marathon".

We're like "what are you talking about? what do you see"

It took a few moments, but eventually we understood that she saw somebody running down the street. he was not in running clothes, and was clearly not running for exercise, but more like running for the bus.

She repeated it a couple of times in different variations - he is a marathon. There is a marathon. etc.

I would never have expected her to pick up the association... (she did not go to Tiberias to see my marathon.).

Kids are sponges.

We were having some meat for dinner last night. As I was preparing it, my 4 year old daughter asked if we were going to be eating "cow or sheep" for dinner...

How many 4-year olds ask that kind of question? hmmmmm

I met my family this evening at the BIG mall at the entrance to Bet Shemesh. Earlier, there had been a large, unusual amount of soldiers passing through the mall, including Air Force (Cheyl Avir) soldiers.

My six year old son was excitedly telling me about the "cheyl avir" that had been there earlier, when he noticed approaching us an Air Force soldier. He pointed to them and said "Look - another Cheyl Avir".

A brief moment later, as the soldier got closer, he noticed that it was a female soldier. He then corrected himself and said, "A Chayelet Avira" (the correct term would be chayelet b'chel avir - a female soldier in the Air Force. Instead he changed the term Air Force to be in the female form).
