Egypt Urges US Restraint Over Missouri Unrest
-- Business Insider
from the article:
Egypt on Tuesday urged U.S. authorities to exercise restraint in dealing with racially charged demonstrations in Ferguson, Missouri - echoing language Washington used to caution Egypt as it cracked down on Islamist protesters last year.It is unusual for Egypt to criticize such a major donor, and it was not immediately clear why the government would have taken such a step.
Ties between Washington and Cairo were strained after Egyptian security forces killed hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood supporters following the army's ousting of freely elected President Mohamed Mursi in July 2013.
Western allies have voiced concern about the democratic credentials of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the army chief who toppled Mursi and went on to win elections. The United States has, however, continued to provide military and other support to Cairo.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry's statement on the unrest in Ferguson read similarly to one issued by U.S. President Barack Obama's administration in July 2013, when the White House "urged security forces to exercise maximum restraint and caution" in dealing with demonstrations by Mursi supporters.
The ministry added it was "closely following the escalation of protests" in Ferguson, unleashed by the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager by a white policeman on Aug. 9.
I wonder if Egypt is considering sending in troops....

kashrut warning regarding fish salami
fish salami.
sounds gross to me.
Koshrot, a kashrut education organization, is warning the public about a new product on the market. Fish Salami. Fish pastrami, actually.
The warning is not that the fish salami is not kosher, but that it seems common to mix salamis and deli meats in a sandwich, and one should be careful not to mix this fish salami with other meaty salamis and deli meats. As well, Sefardim should be careful not to eat this fish salami with dairy, as is their custom.
A unique feature of the fish salami is that it is produced in a different shape, a triangular shape, so it will be easily identifiable.
The new fish salami is produced by Maadanei Miki and bears kashrut certification from Rav Rubin.

Is Lipa banned or not?
A few years ago there was an attempt to put some sort of ban or boycott on Lipa and many other frum singers. The claim was due to these performing in front of mixed crowds.
(as an aside, Mishpacha recently criticized frum people being seen at a Chutzt Hayotzer concert that was before a mixed crowd and it mentioned that this prohibition is clear in Shulchan Aruch, though it did not give any reference. The only thing I know about Shulchan Aruch requiring a halachic separation between men and women is during tefilla, prayer. Any other situation can surely be debated on the merits of tzniyus and gender-segregation, but to say it is a violation of a clear halacha irks me).
you can look back to 3 years ago when Lipa was banned and even see that Rav Chaim Kanievsky is signed on a supposed ban.
Yet, Bechadrei is reporting that Lipa went to Rav Chaim Kanievsky for a bracha. He then offered to sing a song for Rav Kanievsky, but Rav Kanievsky turned him down saying learning torah is more important. Lipa then asked about composing a new song, and Rav Kanievsky told him to compose a song about shmitta - any topic of shmitta, but shmitta.
So, did Rav Chaim Kanievsky ban Lipa or not? Was he banned but the ban was lifted or did it expire? Or was the original a fraud?

new cinema in Jerusalem to open on Shabbos near Old City
The Shabbos wars in Jerusalem might be back.
A new cinema is scheduled to open in September, in Jerusalem near the Old City. The new cinema, Orlando Cinema, will be open on Shabbos.
Considering how all movie theaters and other businesses opened on Shabbos, especially in Jerusalem, get fought tooth and nail, I find it especially interesting that this time they are saying they have to fight it due to its proximity to the Old City, to the Kotel, and to Har Habayit (I heard someone on the radio talk about how close it is to Har Habayit). As if without its proximity to the Old City they would have no problem with it being open on Shabbos.
They are waiting for the owners response and hope he will respond to their requests to keep the cinema closed on Shabbos, but if not they are prepared to protest and will also work through the iryah to try to get it closed on Shabbos.
sources: Kikar and Ladaat.
It seems there is also concern that if this new cinema successfully stays open on Shabbos, it might reopen the issue for Cinema City in Jerusalem
