Jerusalem is Israel's most populous city by far
-- Israel HayomThere is no specific mitzva to live in Jerusalem over any other part of Israel, that i know of at least, but it seems the Jews yearning for Zion and Jerusalem mostly has expressed itself via Jerusalem. One out of every ten Israelis lives in Jerusalem. Tel Aviv has only half of that, followed by Haifa, Rishon LeZion and Ashdod....

The only reason that is true is because "tel aviv" is divded up into what feels like 20+ cities. But if you compare the "Tel Aviv area" to the "Jerusalem area", there are more in Tel Aviv.
ReplyDeleteThere is some sloppy reading of the facts going on here. A third of Jerusalem's population is Arab Muslim, and a most of those people are not Israelis. Just because the city contains 1/10th of Israel's population, does not actually mean that 1/10th of Israelis live in Jlem.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, the population as it is is only that large because the municipality keeps adding land to Jlem to keep the Jewish majority. Much of that population actually lives in the suburbs, but is counted in the "official" stats for political reasons.
